ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert across the country. With rains forecast to continue until 17 September 2026, several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan face the risk of flooding and overflow of rivers and streams.

Regional Threats

In Gilgit-Baltistan, sudden flood-like situations are feared in Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ashkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimsal, Skardu and Shigar. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, flooding is expected in Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai. In Balochistan, Zhob, Sherani and Musakhel areas may be affected by flood-like conditions. In Punjab and Islamabad, urban flooding is likely in several cities including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura.

River Situation

According to NDMA, the Indus River is in moderate flood at Guddu, while low-level flood continues at Kalabagh, Chashma and Sukkur. The Chenab River is expected to have moderate to high flow near Marala.

Safety Guidelines
