QUETTA, August 5, 2026 – The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) of the Balochistan Government has issued a notification to merge the Social Welfare Department and the Population Welfare Department, establishing a new integrated department.

The newly created department has been named the "Social Welfare and Population Welfare Department, Government of Balochistan". This step has been taken to carry out social welfare and population-related affairs in a more effective and coordinated manner.

According to sources, the aim of this merger is to combine the resources and expertise of both departments to provide better services to the public. This move is expected to result in a reduction in administrative expenditures and an improvement in departmental efficiency.

It may be noted that a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti was held recently to discuss departmental reforms in detail . The meeting emphasized the digitization of the financial system and the restructuring of various departments .

This initiative is part of the province's ongoing administrative reforms, which include the dissolution of the Treasury Directorate and the transfer of surplus staff to S&GAD, followed by the restructuring of various departments .

The merger will bring social welfare and population-related policies and programs under one roof, ensuring better coordination and more efficient service delivery to the public.
