The continued closure has significant operational consequences for Indian carriers, forcing them to reroute international flights on longer alternative routes. This has led to higher fuel consumption, extended travel times, and increased operating costs . The latest extension signals that the restrictions will remain in place for at least another month as both countries remain far from resolving the underlying tensions .
Pakistan has extended the closure of its airspace to Indian aircraft until August 24, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) confirmed on Saturday . The PAA issued a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to this effect, extending the ban which was set to expire on July 24 . The restriction applies to all aircraft registered in India, as well as those operated, owned, or leased by Indian airlines or operators, including military flights . Islamabad first imposed the ban on April 23, 2025, following a sharp escalation in tensions between the two neighbours after an attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which resulted in 26 casualties . India immediately blamed Pakistan for the attack, an allegation Islamabad has categorically denied, while offering to support a neutral investigation .
